Site Advertising Update: It has come
to my attention that some rather unsavory ads have been randomly
appearing on various pages of this site. I'm presently working to
resolve this situation through the ad manager which is provided by
Google. I can assure you that as soon as I am able to put the filters in
place to prevent some of the tasteless and offensive ads that have been
appearing, I will do so. Please bear with me as I work to resolve these
issues. Thank you for your patience and for visiting
EastCarolinaRoots.com.

History and Records from New Haven Church - Written and
compiled by Craven County historian, Victor T. Jones, these
additions to the Church History database focus on a list of Pastors
and the history of New Haven Church of the Caton community (in the
area on the north side of the Neuse River along the Little Swift
Creek). Many Craven County folks will find familiar names here!

- CHURCH HISTORY -
In this brand new section of the site (It's
presently very sparse so we need your input!), we will attempt to
document the spiritual "roots" of eastern North Carolina families. We
will add content as we are able, and we also encourage website visitors
to submit items relevant to their own family's faith -- including
documents relating to the planting of churches, histories, Baptisms, and
other such records.

Researching Indian Ancestry
- Do you know you have Indian ancestry, but want to learn more about
it? Have you heard your great-grandmother was "part Indian?" Read
this article to learn how to connect the dots and answer the
questions you've had for so long.

Pirates of the Carolinas
- Do you descend from one of Blackbeard's crewmembers? If you have
origins that go back to Bath and the surrounding areas, it's more
likely than you think!
Apprenticeship Bonds
- From 1715 to 1919, North Carolina regularly placed
children in apprenticeships. Sometime this occurred at the request
of a parent, other times because the child was orphaned or born to
parents of meager means (whether white, Indian, black or some
mixture thereof).
